September 13, 2019 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD | Leafly

With legalization, the cannabis market is rapidly expanding and the drive seems to be, in large part, to health and wellness, not getting high. This has meant an increased demand for no THC or low-THC edibles. read more

THESE ARTISTS ARE GETTING CREATIVE WITH CANNABIS

August 22, 2019 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD | JoshD

Cannabis has influenced artists for centuries. With expanding cannabis legalization spreading across the United States and other nations including Canada, we're psyched to see more and more artists publicly embracing their cannabis usage. Using weed as a medium—whether as pure depiction or manipulating the actual plant—has been a natural part of that evolution. Meet four artists who have tapped cannabis as their muse. read more

IT’S WILDFIRE SEASON—HOW IT CAN AFFECT YOUR CANNABIS CROP

August 21, 2019 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD | Leafly

As we head into the heart of wildfire season (August-September), growers in California are on high alert after the disastrous wildfires of 2015, 2017, and 2018. Julia Jacobson and her husband Samuel Ludwig of Aster Farms lost their cannabis crop in the Mendocino Complex Fire last year. “If you live in California, the wildfires will touch you in some way, somehow, at some point. As much as you can prepare, there is no way to truly anticipate what the experience is like, how terrifying nature can be.” read more

HEMP CROSS-POLLINATION COULD DAMAGE CANNABIS CROPS—HERE’S HOW TO PREVENT IT

July 17, 2019 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD | Leafly

Since the 2018 Farm Bill passed, hemp production has increased across the country—from 25,713 acres in 2017 to 78,176 acres in 2018—according to a crop report from Washington-based Vote Hemp. While that’s exciting news, this surge in hemp cultivation has caused worries among marijuana growers about cross-pollination, a natural process that can reduce the potency of a female plant’s cannabinoids. How have policymakers and regulators addressed this problem? With a few exceptions, not at all, or with great hesitancy. Figuring out what’s happening and who’ll take care of this issue has caused paralysis in many states. read more

How to Build a Cannabis Greenhouse in Your Backyard

June 11, 2019 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD | Leafly

You’ve been thinking about growing cannabis but the idea of growing indoors, without the sun, seems absurd. On the other hand, you’re pretty sure the unpredictability of Mother Nature will give you an ulcer. You also have nosy neighbors who might gasp at the sight and smell of cannabis. What to do? A greenhouse might be the solution. Greenhouse agriculture is an effective way to produce high quality, high yield cannabis with a minimal carbon footprint. When properly cured, greenhouse cannabis can last more than a year. see more

How to Avoid Pesticides When Consuming Cannabis

Jun 10, 2019 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD | Previously Published in Civilized

Despite its hippie associations and "all-natural" branding, the cannabis industry has been using pesticides for decades. Legal cannabis was supposed to bring pesticides to safe levels but that doesn't necessarily mean consumers will be safe from the negative effects of pesticides — especially since state inspection programs aren't fool-proof, and there is little research on how inhaling pesticides, clinging onto marijuana bud, affect your health. see more

WHY ARE OLDER AMERICANS USING CANNABIS?

May 2, 2019 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD (Ghost Writer) | Eco Cannabis

The rumor that more older people are using cannabis is true. That’s according to a study published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence in 2018 that suggests increasing numbers of middle-aged and older adults are using cannabis. Based on data gathered in the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) from 2015 and 2016, researchers found that about 9 percent of U.S. adults between ages 50 and 64 used marijuana in the previous year and 3 percent of people over 65 used the drug in that same time period. see more

SURVEY SHOWS CANNABIS USE HAS NOT INCREASED IN CO TEENS

April 19, 2019 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD (Ghost writer) | Have a Heart

As more states legalize, one highly-charged subject is whether cannabis use among teens will increase. One theory goes that legalization will make cannabis more available to teens and, therefore, more likely to be consumed — especially when it comes in the form of edibles like candies and baked goods. But in fact, in Colorado, the first state to have passed legalization, teen cannabis use has not increased. see more

With this ascension of CBD, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) has been demonized as the compound that gets you high. But many researchers support whole plant therapy medicine that includes THC. read more

CANDLELIGHT GANJA FLOW IN BOSTON

September 17, 2018 | CHRISTINE GIRAUD | The Her(b) Life

I recently went to Candlelight Ganja Flow—a hatha yoga class that incorporates cannabis. There are few ganja yoga classes in Boston so I had to check it out.
